WRBC presents…TRIVIA NIGHT 2012

ITS BACK!! Trivia Night is here and it is fun-packed with great prizes. Come join us for a full night of fun with the greatest radio station in the known universe!!!

To participate in Trivia Night, you need a team. Said team can have as many people you want, but there are no limits. Teams greater than seven are recommended.  Sign ups will be during the first hour of the competition, 8 – 9 PM. Also necessary: a knack for figuring out the obscure songs and trivia questions that WRBC throws at you. Each team is evaluated according to how many points they win. There are three ways to receive points:

1) Trivia: While tuning in to 91.5 FM all night, you will hear all sorts of songs, from pop hits to obscure Chinese folk ballads, and each song has a corresponding trivia question. Using the special trivia night telephone number, call in (before the song ends!) and tell us the title of the song, the artist who is performing it, and the answer to the trivia question. Each of those answers are worth 1 point, so every song is an opportunity to get 3 points.

2) The real excitement begins with Physical Challenges. So maybe you didn’t know in which state it was illegal for mourners at a wake to eat more than three sandwiches? Well, luckily, you can earn more points through a random assortment of the physical challenge, which are announced on the hour, and then performed on the half hour at the WRBC studio. Winners of Physical Challenges are given 15 points, 2nd Place 10 points, and 3rd Place 5 points. These challenges are judged by a group of trivia night staff.

3) Make sure you’re paying attention, you don’t want to miss: Random points events. Because we’re nice people, sometimes points will be offered for certain requirements to be filled. These could really help you out, especially if you’re creative and listening carefully. So be on the look out!

At the end of all the many hours of radio, trivia, and challenges, each team must perform a skit assigned during the last hour of the broadcast. This final challenge holds a very high point value, so if you want to win, make sure you make it entertaining and ingenious.

Once all that’s happened, a winner is declared, prizes are awarded and it’s really early in the morning. WRBC officially recommends sleeping.

Winter 2012 General Meeting

It’s a new year, and WRBC is coming back in fine form.  We’ll be having our MANDATORY general meeting this Thursday (01/12) at 7:00 PM in Carnegie 204.  That’s the big room on the second floor, straight up from the entrance.  Are you sure you got all that?  It’s all bold and everything.  Besides, if you miss the general meeting your likelihood of getting a good time slot diminishes considerably.

At the meeting we’ll give a quick introduction for those new to WRBC and go over some of the fun things we’ll be doing this semester (Concerts! Trivia Night! Yeah!).  Applications will also be available during the meeting for you to fill out while you pretend to listen to us.  They are due either directly to our programming director Bradley Gee after the meeting or to a folder on WRBC’s door by Sunday at 5:00 PM (01/15).  Remember, even if you had a show last semester you still need to submit a new application.  Late applications are not guaranteed anything except a poor time slot.

The winter 2012 application will also be available on the website shortly.  Just keep checking back right here. Voila!  The application is now available.  Please click on the link below, download the application and bring it to the aforementioned meeting.

WRBC 91.5 FM and CHC Present: Dr. Dog

DR. DOG is coming to Bates College for WRBC’s first big show this fall.

Come see the FREE concert September 25 on the Library Quad, brought to you by WRBC 91.5 FM and CHC.

The mini music fest will begin in the early afternoon and will end by 9 PM. Bates’ own Time Travelers will kick off the event, followed by opener Delicate Steve.

Dr. Dog’s latest album, “Shame, Shame,” has been wildly well-received. Pitchfork hailed the work “arguably the band’s finest moment,” and music critic Doug Wallen categorized their sound as “a little folk, blues, indie rock, soul, bluegrass—and a whole lot of down-home harmonizing. It conjures images of old friends sitting on a porch swapping instruments and just letting the tape recorder run.”

Mark your calenders and get psyched for an epic start to the year !
